A bike ride back in time
Today I took Nathan and Neva to my parents house. I had planned ahead that we would go on a bike ride up my old road. I unloaded the bike and stroller, clipped on Nathan's helmet and we were ready to embark on our adventure. Nathan peddled furiously up the road as I followed with Neva in the stroller. I was struck by Neva's awareness of the scenery around us. Index finger extended and pointed out of the stroller toward the open fields. "Look! Look!" she exclaimed. Her tiny finger pointing in 20 directions a minute. "Wow, isn't it pretty Neva" Nathan peddled up to me, "Mica do you take your kids on this farm road?" "Nathan remember I don't have kids, so no sweetie" "Oh yeah, well I like this farm road can we come back next year?" (Nathan refers to a day as a year so he really meant tomorrow.) "sure thing jelly bean" Nathan peddled off again. As I walked along I was swarmed with childhood memories. It wasn't long ago that I was the child on the bike peddling with all my might up this same old bumpy country road. It was only 15 years ago that I was flying up and down this very same road. And only 12 years ago that I crashed and scrapped up my knee so bad I still flaunt the scar. The smell was familiar it reminded me of the many days my sister and I would play for hours on end. We would be outside building forts, playing house, teaching school, exploring new places, capturing animals, rescuing animals, swimming, and just enjoying the solitude of our country home. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing this part of my past with Nathan and Neva. I feel that they enjoyed it too.
